The final activity for first grade was called Stepping Stones. Here are the rules:
- The goal is to get the entire team across the Poison Peanut Butter Pit
- You may not touch the Peanut Butter (gym floor). Three touches between them, and everyone must go back.
- You may only touch the foam lizards. But, if you leave them alone in the Peanut Butter, they sink (I take them away).
- There are only 20 lizards, and 14-17 of you (class depending). So you must work together.
Each class accomplished the task a little differently. All three classes experimented and found that they did have to work together. One person grabbing all the lizards was not going to allow them to win.
One class got in groups of 3-4 with 3 lizards and shared, leapfrogging their way across. The second class got in one line and made a shuttle together by taking little steps. The last person picked up the last lizard and passed it to the front. The third class got in one long line and got across the lizards all in one go by leaping at the same time. Despite many touches, we cheered for each other, communicated using our words and demonstration, and celebrated success as a team.
